overwhelmed with setup

Yes this is a repost, but under a different board so Im giving it another shot.
I am currently running a new psw505 subwoofer from my Harman Kardon AVR-147 subwoofer pre out to the psw505 line in filter using a single cable to a y cable to left and right inputs on subwoofer. I also have the old psw250 8 inch I want to hookup as well, so is there a proper way of doing this and locations for the subwoofers. I had the psw250 next to the couch before I bought the psw505, the 505 is next to the tv now and the 250 is not hooked up yet. I've been hearing alot about going unfiltered, but got me really confused on the setup between the sub and the reciever I need. Then theres L/F lfe or lfe to off through the receiver so...? And would I have to hookup my two front surround speakers through the subwoofer speaker terminals or set them to small?

Harman Kardon avr-147
Center - Athena WS-60 set to small
Front - Athena As-B2-1 set to large
Surround - Cheap Pioneer set to small
Subwoofers - psw250 8" and psw505 12"

I turn to you guys because I have no time to get out to shops for help and nobody really interested at work about home theaters as much as me. 16hr work days keep me from getting to the bottom of this. I know this will take alot of time and patience, so whoever helps me out I thank you very much for your time.

yes a Y splitter should do the job for you.. will allow you to use both of your subs coming from the rear of your HK's sub pre out. as far as placement, that depends on your space. you'll have to play around with it.

although, I would think the PSW505 is going to overpower the PSW250

why do you want to use both subwoofers in your system? Is the 505 not enough?

hook it up as described above. set your fronts to small and that should be it. no need to run a Y splitter at the subwoofer end... there is little or no gain to be gained by using a Y splitter at the subwoofer end.

I had the rca's kicken around and gave it a try and the subs work great. The 505 is crazy loud which I love, but I hook up the 250 near the couch for when my family goes to bed early. So I just leave the settings on the 505 and shut it off, then turn on the 250. Appreciate the help. As for the speakers set to small, could you run by me why they should be set to small because they can produce some pretty surprising bass?

setting front speakers to small. no matter if they are towers.. sends more of the bass to the subwoofer.. you can of course run the fronts on large with a subwoofer. for more bass.. depending on movie.. i run it both ways myself. ;)
