Since I'm down to my NAD T773 (7 channel avr) for my combined HT/2 channel needs, I want to maximize it's performance. I run a 5.1 system & have 2 channels (amps) not being used. How do I configure the 773 to do this. I have an idea but I want to be sure.

You will have to split the input signal for your main speakers and use it for the two sets of outputs you are going to power the speakers with. This might include programing the outputs through the main AVR controls, or using a separate out that output the main signal (ie. B Speakers).

You need two Y splitters. The dual plug end goes to both the pre-out & main-in for the fronts (both L&R). Then the single end goes into the main-in surround back. That's from a diagram NAD sent me. It's very simple to do, nothing complicated at all.

Quite simple. Take one Y splitter, using the dual plug end insert one plug into the Left front pre-out jack & also the Left front main in jack. Now take the single plug end of the Y splitter & insert it into the Left surround back main in jack (not the pre-out jack). Now do the same with the other Y splitter for the Right front. There you go.
