most efficient subwoofer hookup?

I am currently running my new psw505 subwoofer from my harmon kardon avr-147 subwoofer pre out to the psw505 line in filter using a single cable to a y cable to left and right inputs on subwoofer. I also have a psw250 8 inch I want to hookup as well, so is there a proper way of doing this and where exactly should the subwoofers be positioned. I had the psw250 next to the couch before I bought the psw505, 505 is next to the tv now and the 250 is not hooked up at all yet. And I've been hearing alot about going unfiltered, or double unfiltered but got me really confused on the selection I need. Then theres L/F lfe or lfe to off through the reciever so...? And would I have to hookup my two front surround speakers through the subwoofer speaker terminals? Also I've been reading alot of ppl using Denon recievers, was the harman kardon a bad purchase? I had it for about 2 weeks so I could be conviced to exchange it if theres any good reasons why I should.

Harman Kardon avr-147
Center - Athena ws-60 set to small
Front - Athena As-B2-1 set to large
Surround - cheap pioneer
Subwoofers - psw250 and psw505

I turn to you guys because I have no time to get out to shops for help and nobody really interested at work about home theaters as much as me. 16hr work days keep me from getting to the bottom of this. I know this will take alot of time and patience, so however helps me out I thank you very much for your time. I cant wait to complete the setup and watch some hd movies.
