Marantz's line is soooo vast.
At the top of its line, Marantz is way ahead of the likes of NAD, Rotel, or Adcom. Towards the bottom of its line, Marantz is still one step ahead, in terms of sound quality, of Onkyo and Yamaha.
Just my humble opinion. -
I agree with Danny. Their Reference material is surely up there from the monos to the SACD players. They seem to cater to various pocket books and listening levels.Michael

yup. but true.
Actually, the Marantz name has been revived in quality in recent years. The only really junky stuff branded "Marantz" dates from the 1980's. Some of their current equipment is perfectly respectable, though not inexpensive.
None of it touches the Saul Marantz-era hardware, though. -
Are you guys refering to the overall offerinfs from marantz or more specifically to their reference line and higher end??? What about their lower end offerings???Chicomorales:)

I agree with Mark on several points. Marantz has improved their quality level in recent years and recovered from the terrible period when they were owned by Phillips or whoever in the '80's and early '90's. They have been slowing creeping up the audio food chain with some of their high end products. Their high end SACD players are highly respected. They also make very good mid level CD and DVD players. Their receivers are surprisingly good, even the entry level products. I think they are a better performer than much of the more popular Denon, Onkyo, and Yamaha products at the same price point.
I'd be interested to see them get back into tube equipment. That business might be a little too "botique" for their product lines.
Their Saul Marantz era equipment is to die for. This vintage equipment like the 10B tuner, Model 7C preamp, Model 8 or nine amplifier sells for big bucks. It's not just the allure of the good looks of these products, the performance and quality is outstanding.Carl -
Not too many years ago, Marantz made reissue 8B's. 7's too, maybe.
McIntosh still makes the MC-275 (I believe it's the 'fourth generation', MC-275IV). Sam Tellig raved about it a couple of years back (take that for what it's worth). The price was about $4k. I cannot imagine $4k better spent on a new production stereo power amp (i.e., that strikes me as a particularly good deal). -
The entire projected production run of those MC-275's was sold before they started production. Think people wanted them bad?

Some of the post-Saul stuff wasn't terrible. I used to own this:

That's a nice photo of a 2600, John. Better than the brochure photo. Looks like excellent FM tuning, too. Very nice.

What's the consensus on the MA500 - MA700 series? I've been thinking about going that route for amplification with my RTi70/CSi40 front channels for HT.

I see these mono's on the gon all the time Marantz ma-500. anyone have any experience with them. You can get pairs for like 175-300 bucks. I figure if I get that tube preamp these will do 200 wpc at 4ohms2 CHANNEL

the MA500 and MA700's are good deals.. mono block amps... they do the job.. can be bridged to give you 380watts. heavy little amps... and as you said.. you can get them for next to nothing. I use three of the MA500's for my fronts.
ok sounding little amps.. not in the same league of course as some of your higher end multi channel amps... but for the price, they do the job just fine.
plus each channel gets it's own separate amplification. 125w is nothing to sneeze at. or go with the MA700 for 200w, but those don't come up on for sale as often.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
