Hi all,
OK so here is the question for today.

I hear people talk about taking new speakers and breaking them in, condition them, opeing them up.

What is this all about, how do you properly start using your speakers so that they get condition properly.

As always thanks for all replys.

I can tell you that my Tannoys sounded like garbage the first hour out of the box. Over the next 5 hours was the biggest change in sound.

The break-in period is different for each brand or type of speaker. For my Polk RTi6's I found that the sound was initially very good, but improved just a bit over the next 20 hrs or so--nothing dramatic.

In constrast, I recently finished building a pair of Metronome style speakers using Fostex FE208 full range drivers. When first powered up, they sounded absolutely horrid! After 200 hrs of break-in, they are developing the smooth, sweet sound I am looking for.

So just use your new speakers. Don't abuse them by driving your amp into clipping and don't abuse your ears w/ excessive volume levels. (How can you enjoy them if you wreck your hearing?;) )

    Cheers, Jim
