Will a passive pre improve this system?

I've been reading a little about passive pre amps lately and wanted you guys' opinion on whether it would improve my system......I have LSI9's and an LSIc up front driven by an Anthem MCA 3 225wpc at 8ohms through a Yamaha RSV630 used as a pre. Running a PSW1000 sub through the Yamaha LFE out and two Monitor Radius 180's driven by the Yammie as surrounds.
I listen mostly to fairly good quality 192K (similar to Itunes Plus) internet music.....and enjoy a lot of DVD movies.
Interested in what a passive pre does, and if is it something that would improve an already nicely performing system. If so.....how do you hook it up and what changes should I expect?
Any comments much appreciated.
