Picked up the latest offering from these blokes over the weekend. I was scared shitless that their major label debut would be a disaster. Dear God... I was wrong. Unbelievable album. I guess some bands are able to make that leap.

I was fortunate enough to see them live during the Curiosa tour. And I'll be seeing them again in the next month. Any other Interpol fans out there?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Good to hear you like the album...I read some mixed reviews, but just placed the old amazon order now.

Looking forward to seeing them at Lollapoopyloopy.

I avoided the reviews. I just figured there would be the typical backlash after they bolted from Matador. It's as good as anything else they've put out and it's actually the best of the three lyrically. If you haven't seen 'em live, you're in for a treat. It appears they're taking up where The Cure left off....

Was a big fan when their first album came out because it was so different. That album will always have a place in my collection. Just waaaay too many memories to go along with it.

Antics sucked, hard, and I haven't bothered with them since. They were good live many years ago, but I have no idea what they're like now. I'd assume better.

Oh, and complete Joy Division ripoffs -- which is all good, but they are. Undeniable.

    You think Antics sucked?!?
We're usually on the same page, but man... I'm really going to have to disagree with you on that one.

You're spot-on about Joy Division though. And Seventeen Seconds/Pornography/Faith era Cure....

I'd have to completely agree on that one Demi. I was sooo excited to hear something different/dark/deep in "Turn on the Bright Lights", but felt like Antics took a turn for the poppy/emo worse....The better half picked up the new one this weekend; I'm hoping I'll like it better.

And nothing wrong with emulating your influences; especially good ones :)

I think "poppy/emo" is a bit harsh, but I can see why one would favor the first album.

Probably just a taste thing. I absolutely loved the first album, and while I don't want bands to "make the same album over and over," I do believe in sticking with kind of a broad formula, especially when it works so well. I mean, to me, NYC is Interpol at their best, and I didn't feel any of that on Antics.

I'll probably go pick this new one up to see if it's any better. Maybe wait to see what a few more here have to say.

I just acquired this album and am not too familiar with their work other than a couple of tunes I heard on the radio but probably couldn't name or even hum. I did see them live last year. In your opinion what's the turn on?

The writing, the chops, melody, dynamics? I got through the first two tracks last week but haven't felt the urge to go back YET. No doubt I'll give it a couple more run throughs this week.

I'm not sure "Emo" is my thing necessarily but I like almost everything that's worth hearing :)

Can someone tell me what Emo is exactly? I mean...is it any reference towards feelings or is it the tone of the voice? I mean, I'd consider Chris Carabbaba from Dashboard Confessional to be a whiny little ****, but does that make him Emo (major **** on tour, BTW...).

I tend to rebel against narrow classifications such as this.

Is that the same hand you lost three fingers to a table saw in your high school shop class?

I'll be seeing 'em tonight with general admission seating. Saw them once already opening during the Curiosa festival, but was about 22 rows back. This time I'll work my way to the stage. Will be a blast!!

The show was amazing.... sound was absolutely stellar. They played about two hours worth of music with a fair mix from all three albums. I managed to make my way to the very front of the stage, which is always the ultimate coup.

Crowd was a bid sedated, though that's been my experience with many shows in the Cincy area. Different music scene, I suppose. Louisville shows can get a bit rowdy in comparison.

Something was amiss back stage before the set, because it took them about hour longer than normal to take the stage. Since the show had already started an hour late.... ansy ants in the pansy pants and whatnot.

    Still....
excellent musicians. Excellent song selection. Multiple encores. Great performances. If you're a fan of the band, see 'em if you get a chance. Preferably in a small indoor venue. I had already seen them once before at an outdoor ampitheatre and they were too entirely different experiences...

    Front row! Fortune smiled.
