Has anybody seen this one yet? I went with the wife and the 11.58 year old boy - it was dark and intense; my wife remarked it was a good balance between the complexity of the book and time limitations of the movie medium.

There were some gaps for me since I haven't read the books, but it was a good story and I liked it.

My rating: Four out of five bags of popcorn. ;)

The action was good, but they left out almost all of the interesting character development that made the 5th book my favorite in the series so far. The only Characters who got major screen time were Potter and Umbridge, which is much different from the book.. so I was a bit disappointed. Still, a fun summer movie.

It was SO BORING. The fist half hour really got me into it but then it just got so...well...BORING, and then it was over, but in its defence the Goblet of Fire was one of the better movies I've seen in the past few years, so to me it had alot to live up to.

Yeah, this one was a little slow. Good start, then very slow, then some good action right at the end.

I don't think it was one of my favorites, but definitely worth seeing if you have any interest in Harry Potter stuff.

You're right, Goblet of Fire was very good, and I was hoping this one would be as exciting/interesting. . . but, fell a little short.

I think it was my least favorite. Even my 12 year and 8 year agree. We could not believe how much was left out of the book.

Yeah... I heard that they took the most liberties with this installment. As for the book, it's probably my second favorite in the series behind Azkaban (which was also the best movie IMO).
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Ya, I agree but those Potter books keep getting larger and larger. I think that book was like 800 pages or something. They could almost do a trilogy with that :)

And of course by then, those actors who are supposed to be playing 13 years olds would be adults (its bad enough now) :):)

That my one complaint of the Potter movies. Like Hermony, she’s supposed to be like 13 now, but you know she’s like 18 and I'd "hit" it :):)

If you ask me, the movies don’t even hold a candle at all to the books strait up.

But they are good movies at that.

The're in there 5th year at Hogwarts, in the movies anyway, so shouldn't they be around 16 or 17?

No, Rons brothers were in their 7th year and they were 17 correct? If I recall right. Maybe 14-15 years old is right.

My impression is that they go in at ten, so this being the fifth year they should be 15?

I think your right now that I've thought about it I think I remember Harry telling the reporter in the GoF that he was 14 when she kept calling him 12 or something. so that would make them all around 15, MAN, I have put way to much thought into Harry Potter age, I need to find a hobby.

Liked it. Overall, a good movie which is impressive for #5 in the series. Most series die at #3. Can't wait for the next one.

going to go see Harry Potter tonight in IMax. Should be pretty cool. I hear the last 20 minutes of the movie were done combining the latest technology of 2D and 3D to make Imax 3D... that should be pretty cool stuff.

Sounds like the movie is pretty good too.

I took my kids with my friends who took their kids also. We were all mixed on how we percieved the movie, actually of the seven of us only 2 really liked it.

I personally was on of the two. For some reason it really captured my attention, I really liked it.

I watched it this weekend with my son and we both likes it. It is a bit different then the rest in the series, this one is more dark and serious and also lacks many eye candy/fun scenes.

It's a dark movie alright, but it also shows how the storyline has matured.. after this many movies, you hope that it changes from one to the next.. i really enjoyed it.

THe IMAX experience is great.. while the movie was in wide screen.. it was quite different seeing in on a huge screen like that. IMAX boasts that their theaters have 12,000 watts of audio power. i gotta say.. i felt all 12,000 of them watts.

wow.. talk about rumble in the bass, loud, lively, it really brought you into the movie experience like i've never have before.

Our IMAX theater wasn't set up for the IMAX 3D, so we didn't get to see the final 20 minutes of the movie in 3D with them funky glasses on.. :(

I liked it, & when Dumbledore came out to fight Voldemort I kinda got that feeling I had when I saw yoda walk into the room to fight Count dooku which is what I've been waiting to see for a few movies now.

I think both stylistically for the film and story-wise for the book, The Prisoner of Azkaban is still the high water mark in the series...

Though in all fairness, I have yet to read the Half-Blood Prince.

Just saw it. Here's my first impression short review: I was unmoved and preferred the preview.

Another thought I had is that I hate compression. So much is left out. Perhaps a miniseries would be a better format for these books? Eventually, it will happen I think.

I need more dialogue, more explanation. This movie assumes too much for my taste, though I believe that it is reasonable for the filmmaker to assume that everyone has read the book. I'd be curious to know how more visual people like it, if simply visually alluding to some key and some other highlights does it for you.

Luna was well cast. Snape is amazing. Maggie Smith is outstanding but underused. I still miss the old Dumbledore, plus he spent this movie acting distant so that didn't help.

    Alan Rickman rules all.

What did you think of the 7th book?

I thought it was the best of the series. It was a little slow at parts, but really not to bad and most of the slow parts were also reveiling parts of the story that had been left out so far. It was a good finish to the story.

I would love to see a series of 5 books from his parents lives. - starting when they entered hogwarts and ending with their graduation. One book from each of their perspectives - James, Lilly, Servious, padfoot and moony. It would be a cool twist if you could get the feel of 7 years in one book for each of them.
