Got a Dynakit PAS2 from Russman. Dug into it a bit tonight.
Tested the tubes. One was a 12au7. Put that one aside.
Rectifier ok. Two 12ax7's tested ???. Threw out. Without running
TT pre, still needed one more 12ax7. Found one hidden away.
Cleaned controls. Bypassed all tone controls. Fired her up with the
Audio Research vt60. There was background noise and hum, but also some magic.
This could be good. I'm in and out of town for the next 1 1/2 weeks,
but this will be waiting when I return. Next up, bypassing loudness and stereo
mix, maybe even balance. I think I'll pull the phono pre board and store that.
Go basic, change out the rest of the caps, and clean her up.
Downloaded manual and modding info. Damn, I can even see these
connections without the magnifying glass.

At the moment, it's way too ugly to post. Give me a chance to at least polish
40 years of crud off the front brass faceplate!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
PAS 2 and 3 have same circuitry except the front plate. Go to http://www.tech-diy.com to buy the PAS power supply to replace the
exisiting one. You will know what is missing from those PAS pre from day one!!

I stole a picture from online. It's gonna take some elbow grease to get mine to shine."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. New update. When doing mods, consult print and THINK!
Removing the phono/low level board also removed a ground reference point for the filiment power. Regrounded at mid point of the 25VDC feed to the two tube's filiments.(half of 25=12.5 for the proper amount).
Re-testing shows almost no more noise or hum.
Time now for some clean up work."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson
