Just got a SVS...

PB2+ (old PB12-Plus/2) and I have a few questions as the manual seems to be lacking somewhat.
Can you plug all of the ports and get even deeper bass then normal?
Can you take the base plate off and have this thing standing up with the connections and ports facing up?
What would be the sound impact of converting this down firing sub to a front firing?
Thanks for any help everyone can give, I just got it and so far it is amazing.

Yes you can take the bass plate off if you like, some people have done so. As for sound difference you can search it on her and found out. And no you cant plug all output ports.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Thanks guys.
It is tough to search for though as svs is only 3 letters.
Edit: Forgot about wild cards...searching now.

if i remember correctly.. unplugging all the ports gives you the least output, but the lowest bass.. for some reason that sticks in my mind. plugging one or more ports increases output volume but the sub won't reach quite as low. still plenty low of course.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Yep, that's how I have my LFM-1 Plus plugged. Lower bass but at much lower SPL unless I crank the volume knob. -
If you plug all of the ports you have created a sealed sub and get the least amount of deep bass.Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15

How do you search using wild cards? -
Running the SVS with all ports open and x-over set at 25Hz will get you the most output of your SVS. This is generally recommended if you have a fairly large room. Running the SVS with one port plugged and set at 20Hz or 2 ports plugged at 16Hz will get you much lower frequency roll-off but you'll lose some SPL. I'd recommend trying each setup as described above it that format, 3 ports open, 25HZ (higher SPL), 1 port plugged, 20Hz and 2 ports plugged, 16Hz.(lower frequency roll-off, lose of some SPL) and see which formats best suits your needs.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!
-
By the way, my room is 14' wide, 22' deep with 8' ceilings and I run both of mine with 1 port plugged and x-over set to 20Hz. When watching a movie at or near reference level, it pressurizes my room so bad your eardrums pop and it feels like the walls are going to fall down around you.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

i'm sure you'd be fine 're-configuring' your svs via removal of the baseplate and what not, but imo, don't alter it in any way. they've done the research. they manufactured the best end-product through said research. if you want a different configuration, possibly build a diy sub?

Agreed! If SVS felt that building the sub without a bassplate and having front and/or top ports, then they would have built it that way. It's designed that way for a reason.
I run my PC-Ultra with 1 port plug. Although I've never done any testing with 2 ports plugged OR no ports plugged, I feel that 1 plug is a good middle of the road balance. Good SPL and good depth, although not the absolute best in either.
Have fun with your new sub.

Youre sick guy, running those dual subs like that. However I do mean that in a good way. Thanks for recommending dual PB12 Plus/2 subs in my setup.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Try it --
Just replace the base screws in the holes or you will have a leak- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
wow didn't realize this thread had so much activity, I thought it was done after the first few responses.
Erndog,
You type in a word and add a * to fill in gaps. For example if I wanted to search for my sub some people call it a PB2+, some a PB2-Plus. I just type in PB2* and both come up. It also seems to work with 3 letter words like SVS*.
grimster,
Thanks for the explanation. I have a 14x16x8 room and don't play near reference levels. 2 plugs with 16hz subsonic filter sounded good but I still have plenty of headroom to work with. -
I tried setting it up with 2 ports plugged and 16hz subsonic cutuff...blew me away. I only have the volume knob up a little over one notch and the bass is amazing, a little overwhelming actually. This is why I wanted to know if you could plug all of them for even deeper bass, as I definitely don't need the extra headroom.
I tried it for a few days with the base plate on and was very impressed. Never had this much powerfull bass before, works wonders for HT, and blends better with my buttkickers then my earthquake supernova did. 2ch not so good, crossing it over at 35hz using a paradigm X-30...can't get rid of the boomy bass no matter what I do.
I took the bass plate off and put the screws back in (thanks Sid). A little more tuneful and it integrates better with my 2ch listening. I have it propped up on the face with the connections and ports facing up and drivers facing me. I decided to set the subsonic to off and plug the last hole using foam...much better. Matches my Gallos very well now, not as good as powering the 2nd voice coil on their 10in drivers but it is close enough for me. Volume knob is now just over two clicks up. Still gotta try a movie this way though.
Thanks for all the help guys and gals.

Quick shot of the PB2+ on it's side. My system is going through some big changes recently and I will be updating pics the end of the week. By big I mean a new 2ch amp, new surround amp, new source, new stand...and of course the new sub.
I'll post a couple more once that is all set, as right now the room is a mess...and I am not sure if it will stay in this position.
So far so good though...no eq and I have +/-4db flat from 16hz-120hz. Never would have thought this was a musical sub, but front firing with all the ports plugged it sure is.
