"The PrimaLuna ProLogue Eight

Revolutions are born in bold ideas. In true PrimaLuna fashion, the stunning ProLogue Eight CD Player will revolutionize the audio industry by introducing the world’s first tube-based data clocking device: the SuperTubeClock.

By incorporating a low-noise mini-triode vacuum tube into the digital clock, this boldly conceived design provides vastly superior resolution, detail retrieval, improved clarity, increased definition and detail from top to bottom.

The ProLogue Eight is a true dual-mono design, right down to the dual vacuum tube rectification - another first in a CD player. The power supply is adapted from the award winning ProLogue Three
preamp. High quality resistors, mosfets, and Solen capacitors yield superior transient response, detail, and channel separation."

Just introduced, thought I'd post - since tube cdp's seem to be all the rage at Club Polk. Someone buy it, and tell me how it sounds.

Cheers,
Russ

If the reviews are like anything else they make (or anything new these days for that matter), I'm sure they will be glowing.

I can't remember the last BAD review I read, in print anyway.

I dig the layout, the thin-width design - matches up well with their other components - your Primaluna preamp and cdp could sit on the same shelf (in some racks). At the pricepoint, the Jolida is the only stock (sans mod) tube cdp I'd own (so far) - and that's from cold hard listening, nothing more.

    Cheers,
    Russ

No idea, saw the ad in Sterophile, and went searching. Upscale didn't list a price - but most of their gear hovers around $1400 - $1600 per unit.

True, but sometimes one can read between the lines.

I am really curious on what is "SuperTjoebClock". Ought to find out more info about that. Everything else isn't very different but looks like a pretty good power supply, though.

Is that a Freudian slip? Tell me more on what the guys at AH! are doing, I'm out of the loop, if there is one.

I asked my experience ee friend what exactly is:

The SuperTjoebClock. An ultra-low jitter clocking device replaces the crystal with a vacuum tube. Yields incredible detail retrieval and dynamics throughout the entire audio spectrum.

    and his reply was:
There is a crystal in there, it's the blue wrapped thing.

Looks like there's a coil of wire under the shrink wrap, acting as an
"oven", keeping it at a constant temprature for stabilty (35C. is
typical). The tube triode doesn't suffer from thermal changes in the
junction the way a SS device does, making for an extremely stable clock.

This actually very old technology - on the order of 50 years old, just
used in a different way. It was invented about the same time as
single-sideband (SSB) communications, where even a 10Hz drift in
operating frequency was noticeable on the receiving end.

So, I guess the statement "replaces the crystal with a vacuum tube" is a little misleading. I wonder why not simply use a Tentlabs clock instead.

Absolutely. Reviewers now just write 'less glowing' reviews for crap and use a lot of double talk to smooth out a bad review and gloss over the negatives to give anything a positive spin.

Because in reading the description, it says this CDP has a SuperTjoebclock in it.

The PrimaLuma Integrated tube amp is a pretty decent unit.
Tubes for the clock? I think someone is yanking my privates. Thats NOT what I call forward progress. The jitter is produced from a lot of things. A tube here seems to be just a gimmick. Solid state in SSB is much more stable than a tube until it runs for a couple of hours. Guess we'll have to leave these running 24/7.

Fred, no it's easy. I'm sure the Tent clock comes with instructions. The worst part is removing the digital board under the transport.

Scan - Dutch, they all sound funny to me. :)

Hey Maurice, where have you been? Haven't seen you for quite awhile.
Did you try the Russian 1578 (6SN7) and 1579 (6SL7)? They will knock your socks off, try them.
