Ok so I set up my basic garage system. Bought these outdoor speaks at ratshack which aren't bad for $50. I ran the set-up with no problems during our daughter's Christening. System worked great. I went to listen the other day while doing some yard work and noticed something was wrong: the right channel is blown. No sound, nothing. Swapped speaks, checked wires, etc., still no sound from right channel.

Before I toss this into the trash, is there anything internally I can check? It does have some sentimental value as I was in high school when I bought it. I had it on layaway and every week I would run to the electronics store to put more down until I was able pay it off and take it home:D

Work all switches as this seem odd to me the right channel died after nothing. Also see if any of the inputs work the right channel at all, this will tell you if its the amp or something else.

I'm gonna switch inputs to see if there is a diff.

So far, just out of curiosity, I changed the wires from speaker A to speaker B with the same result.

Oh yeah, first thing I checked was the the balance levels:D

Check for internal fuses, if so measure with an Ohm meter to see if one is blown. Replace with exact same value if that's the case.

Does it have a relay that keeps the outputs disconnected for a second or two after you power it up? I can't really tell from the picture, but it might be the black rectangular thing right in the middle of the picture. Usually you can hear them click. I have had some trouble with those in the past, though usually it results in scratchy or intermittent sound in one or both channels, rather than just a dead channel. I've had that issue on two older receivers (well, integrated amps actually), both Pioneer (but probably just by coincidence).

    thanks for the replies everyone

I found the problem. I was using an XM radio home dock station as my input and the mini jack connection was loose. Because it was loose it was only transmitting the signal over the one channel.

I was moving it when I was running all my checks and bam, the right channel went on. I moved it back and forth and the right channel would go in and out.

Bought a new dock station and everything is ok.

You are right, it does pay to check every little thing. That was the last thing I thought it would be. Usually loose mini jacks will give off a scratchy sound
