Can you safely "open" the tweeters?

Hi,
I have a set of MMC6500 components that will be going into my 2000 Acura Integra. I don't want to cut a larger hole in my door panel to get the tweeters to fit. Plus, I like the way it looks stock.
My question is whether or not you can remove the silver plastic housing and grill on the tweeter. I did it on a set of Infinity's in my old Integra, to get them to fit in the stock location, and they worked perfectly. I can easily get them out of the housing without damage, I am just worried about degrading the performance of the tweeter.
Anyone ever done this or have any input
Thanks in advance!

i dont see it as a problem unless the housing is integrated into the tweeter's structure. I've never pulled a tweeter apart the way you're saying. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge

I suppose the safe way to go would be to contact customer service @ Polk to find out how much a pair of replacement tweeters will cost you...should your experiment go horribly awry .
