There is no real reason to sell it other than to just try something else.. lol

some of us will never reach the level of the Shanling tube CDP.. and you're selling it? It may be tough trying to top the performance of it though...

Alright, I can't blame you there. And I realize at your age you probably can't hang onto it and purchase a second CDP at the same time. All I know is I really like mine, and I am sure I will try others, but its going to be a long time before I sell mine. I guess I am just suprised at how quickly you are willing to part with it. It hasn't been all that long.

Back on topic. This CDP rocks. I have the same one. Its awesome. Its a great conversation starter/jealousy jenerator. The coolness factor is quite high and pics do it no justice whatsoever.

Well -- after thinking about it a bit..

I think I am going to keep this...

However if you are seriously interested in it - let me know and I will consider it. It really is just a phenominal piece of equipment that would be hard to rival.

Good decision. Now get to work and modify it. Spend less than $100 and you can take it to the next level.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Can you direct Sid and I to some literature or documentation on mods for the Shanling?

Just google it. Lotsa stuff there. For example, here's Underwood Wally's Level 1 mod:

    Power Supply:
9 Ultra-fast, soft recovery Hexfred (International Rectifier) and Fred
    (Vishay-Telefunken) diodes
2 Black Gate Standard Grade electrolytic capacitors
4 Auricap metallized polypropylene "bypass" capacitors

    Vacuum Tube Output Stage:
    18 Audio Note Tantalum 1/2 & 1-watt resistors - signal path
4 Black Gate Standard grade electrolytic output-coupling capacitors
2 Auricap Metallized polypropylene "coupling bypass" capacitors

    Solid-State (Direct) Stage:
14 Riken Ohm (Japan) 1/2 watt (gold-plated leads) Carbon Resistors - signal path
4 Black Gate Standard grade electrolytic output-coupling capacitors
6 Burr Brown "high-performance, audio grade" dual OPA2134 op amps
4 ft. DH Labs (99.99% pure, long-grain) silver, 23 gauge solid-core, Teflon "air matrix" dielectric, output wire
2 sheets of SOUNDCOAT dampening material (applied to internal chassis)
TRT Wonder Solder (a silver content solder) used throughout

I'd start with the caps, diodes, and opamps. Sid, I think your opamps have already been upgraded, but you can verify it. I'd also suggest popping the hood, taking some detailed pics, and e-mailing/talking to people who have done this before. This is a potential DIY project if you or a friend is handy with a soldering iron. OR -- take the easy (and most expensive) route and ship your CDP to a company that mods these units.

Hey Sid, ya' wanna hear a Rega Apollo in your rig without lifting a finger? PM me and I'll find some time to dart up there and you can check out mine in your rig.

    Just a thought..........

Then we can mess around with those cables and cords that don't make a difference.;)
