DIY Stereo stand

Hi,
I got a new used Jolida tube amp from Doro (thanks Doro) and love it, but the old stand didnt work well with it. It was a metal stand with welded shelves that cant be adjusted. It also would ring if you flick it with your finger. So I made a temporary stand to see if I could hear any difference. I could hear more bass and midrange and better low level detail. So here is the end result. It sounds (great, now you guys have me listening to the "sound" of stands) quieter, cleaner in the upper range, and much better bass detail. I used the flexy stand idea and made it less rigid. The top 2 shelves are 1 1/2" maple from an old dishwasher top. The cd shelf is 3 layers of mdf. It has 3 legs that are just screwed to the shelves, not glued. It will move a little if you push it hard. I think it looks good and didnt cost much. DIY rules.

That looks awesome! Can we get a side shot too? Flexy racks are so easy to make and since they're so easy to customize they're nearly perfect in every way lovestandard25tp8.gif

The ONLY thing I hate about mine is that it has to be taken apart (a lot of threading nuts) every time I need to move it. FWIW, mine is a four legged one (to support the extra weight).

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for the comments. On the other side one leg about 2/3 the way back to help balance the 40 lbs of transformers on the back side of the jolida. I cant get over how much quieter it sounds. Next project is to hotrod the jolida-diodes, caps, resistors. ect. Thanks.

Nice job bikerboy! Your system must sound fantastic as you've got some nice components. Congrats and enjoy the music.

Looks great! Nice and dusty back there too ;)

Did the brick make a noticeable difference on the cd player? I'd like to try that with mine but I'm worried about the extra weight for the marble shelves on my flexy rack since the shelves themselves weigh about 25lbs each (then components on top of that). Maybe I'll give it a shot with a small brick and a towel later tonight.

The idea is that it reduces jitter and tightens things up, but I haven't tried it yet so I can't say if it works or not.
