Anyone running 4 ohm speakers with their Denon HTR? I have a 3802 and the specs only show power ratings for 8 and 6 ohms? Thanks.

They should only be running them with a separate amp. Since as you noted, the Denon is not designed to be run with 4ohm speakers & Denon won't recommend it either.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Depends on the stability of the speakers. My friend has been running five 4 ohm Bohlender speakers on his Denon 280x receiver.
Try it. If nothing blows up, then it's OK.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

The Denon 48xx and 58xx will handle 4 ohms pretty well, but anything below that, you're going to start clipping and/or push it to protection mode. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I've got an older carver amp (int) CM-1090, that is supposed to be good to 150 watts at 4 ohms....maybe I will use that with the speakers instead. Thanks.

I went through the same thing you did. Recently I bought some LSi9s and was pushing them through my old B&K receiver, which does not specifically state it will push a 4-ohm load. The LSis sound good but not great. I just added a separate Adcom power amp that will push 4-ohm loads and it is night and day. Give the Carve a whirl!
