but I am wondering what would be better for 2-ch audio, the RTi8 or RTi10? I am in college so it will be used pretty much 1/3 each of video games, music and movies. I had figured on paying $600+ on the 8's, but now that I've found both for less, the 10's are back in the picture. I'm drawn to the 10's because they would produce better bass (we like bass). I realize this is a popular point of debate, but I figured I'd get your opinions for my personal situation :) FWIW, these will be running in stereo mode on a HK 445 receiver.
My 2 ch. rig
RTi10 Cherry (bi-wire)
HK AVR 445
Xbox 360 w/ HD-DVD attachment
Not too bad for a dorm room I think? :D

like i said, these will be playing in stereo without a sub unfortunately. the rti8+sub would be ideal but i simply cant afford it right now. would it be better to just go for the 8's now and buy a sub later?

I just setup a pair of RTi10's in my mom's house and they Sound Wonderful! The only thing better would have been the 12''s but she didn't want to spend that much.
So get the 10's and don't look back!

Are you willing to get an extra amp if you got the 10s? Otherwise, I really like the suggestion of getting the 8s and a seperate sub. If you look around, you can get a lot of bass for not too much money.

Agree with Shizelbs, I did not get what I would call great bass out of my 10's until I added the B&K amp. If you do plan on adding one later then it's the 10's all the way. IMO unless you are getting a good sub the 10's with an amp will even work for HT duty.

I'd go with the Rti10's and add an amp and sub later down the road.

Running them off your HK will make them sound awesome and running them with a separate amp will make them sound ****' awesome!

I purchased 2 RSi15 and an RSic and attempted to drive themm off a new HK435 rated at 80 wpc. Had some distortion in the treble/tweeter range playing singers like Celine Dion and even the MC on American Idol. HK said only 6 or 8 watt impedance speakers never 4 watts.. Polk said should have 150 wpc. Soooo with the information here and Outlaw I ended up buying 3 Mono-Blocks from Outlaw. Sounds great now but did not have a warm fuzzy feeling for the first nine months of owning the HK or the Rsi setup. The HK 435 was recommended by the online sales person.

I was thinking about doing the same thing with the rti12's if I fed them enough power from a good amp would I still need a sub?? I would rather not get the sub unless there is no way to get good bass from soild tower speakers??
sorry for piggybacking on ure topic bpgunning

I own the RTi12's. As far as 2 channel listening or just to music, the RTi12's with plenty of amplification have very nice bass. You will not need a sub for those type of listening scenarios. Matter of fact, when I am listening to stereo, I never utilize my subwoofer. It is just not needed.

However if you want the full impact of subsonics for Home Theatre, the RTi12 is ok but does not hold a candle to a nice subwoofer like my SVS. To get the full HT effect, I do not think there is a single set-up that would not benefit from having a dedicated sub....or two. :)

I am a huge fan of 6-7 inch drivers. the speed of mid size drivers just sweetens the pot. Later add a sub for HT.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects.
