I have a chance to acquire a McIntosh MR-71 FM only tube tuna circa 1965+-. I live out in the country so I need a tuna that has good sensitivity. Has anyone had any experience with these tunas? Is this a good choice for me?
Thanks, Phil

I have the MX115(pre/tuner) which was made a few years later. It was recently aligned, but the FM reception is very impressive using just a thing gauge speaker wire. I can pick up many NY, NJ, and CT stations. With a rooftop antenna, I should be able to pick up Boston and Philly which are both a few hundred miles away. HTH.

    Phil,

Run! Don't walk to pick that thing up. It is a highly regarded tube tuner. Some McIntosh enthusiasts think the MR-67 sounds better, others don't. If you don't want it, let me know how I can purchase it.

The secret to any FM reception is going to be the antenna. Get yourself a big Yagi and mount it on your roof with a rotator if possible. The audiokarma.org forums has a "Tuners" forum where you can find a lot of information about antennas.

    Good luck!
