I know there are some 3480 users here. A company from Oregon customized an HK 3480 (also the 3485). Got a good review:

They sound very good in stock form. Perfect for an office rig or secondary system on the cheap.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

    welcome

Modifying a receiver is not often spoken about. Usually you hear about modifying players, etc.

That is the poorest excuse for a review I have ever read. Perhaps you guys missed a couple of key points?

    First he says:
Overall, I am amazed at what changing out some key parts with higher quality components can do for the sound.

    And at the end:
I did not have the luxury of being able to compare the modified 3480 with an original one, but the modified unit sounds and measures like no other $550 receiver I have ever seen.

So how does he even know the sound is improved?

I wonder how the mod HK receiver would compared to a $600.00 integrated amp.

It would have been nice to have a stock 3480 on hand for a comparison review. At least the guys doing the mods could have supplied a stock HK and the review could have demonstrated the differences between the two.

Like Zero said, it is nice to at least see a modified HK getting a look.
