I ran my rears today with some new cable that I bought for my basement walls. Im posting this real fast because they are sitting 6 inches form my computer chair. Most cable has printing on one of the wires so you can make it + and then the non printed can be your "-".
But I cant friggen tell with these wires and my line tester is at work.
Im sitting here swapping the cables to + and to - to see which one sounds right and they both sound exactly the same lol.
At the speaker
black = +
Red = -
then
red = +
black = -
What am I missing. What happens if I get them backwards?
say:
amp+ = speaker -
amp- = speaker +

The sound from your rears will be out of phase, generally when speakers are wired this way they will lack a proper soundstage and sound hollow. It might be a little more difficult to tell on rears given the lack of information going to them compared to the front channels. Try using 5 or 7 channel stereo to test out their polarity.System:

FXI5's are showing black is positive and red negative? That doesn't sound right... I wonder if the nuts were just taken off and switched.
If it's not too much trouble, run the speakers two channel. You should notice they lack a lot of bass hooked up one way (out of phase + wrong polarity). -

Awesome advice, I forget about the "all stereo" optionTesting

easy check. Hook the wires up to the speakers, un-hook them from your amp/receiver. take a aa battery and touch each of the leads to each side of the battery, if your woofer moves out take the wire that is on the + side of the battery and hook it up to the + side of your amp. If it moves in hook the wire on the + side to the negative terminal.

Aren't the FXi5s (if that is what you have) bi-pole and di-pole speakers? If so, won't they be out of phase anyway depending on the bi-pole or di-pole setting? Just food for thoughtRegards - Gaz from the land of Oz
