Amp rumbling

I have a Carver CM-1090 integrated amp. I love the sound and it has great power for my needs. But, it seems to a get into a low rumble when amplifying certain low bass tones. It is fine on drums and quick hits, but if there is, say, a low organ note, and some sustained bass guitar chord, it seems to rumble low like a jet engine. I have tried 2 different cd players and different speakers and still "think" I hear it. I know it is hard to say without hearing it yourself, but would this just be a function of the amps electronics, or does it sound like the solenoid* (or one of those other electrical devices I don't understand). After working on this for a few hours over the past month, I have just concluded that this was the result of having the speakers too close to the back wall (and maybe a side wall) in a room that is only about 10 by 12. It seems that the low sustained bass just started rumbling around in the room. That is my current diagnosis.
