    SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used an electronic crossover, bypassing the high freq xover in the speakers, and BAM, they are alive!

So, maybe, just maybe it IS that resistor.

Great atleast you know for certain the tweets are good.I wonder if PSB would be kind enough to give you a diagram of the hi pass section of the xover so that you can verify the connections.

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to get that schematic from them. I'll be running them actively biamped, anyway, so the only reason I really need to get it fixed is for when I inevitably sell them due to a low-intensity chronic upgraditis I suffer from.

    Thanks for all your help.

Just saw this thread. I guess I'm not the only one to have stuff with odd
    problems!:D
What did you ever find wrong with your second Rotel amp?

I haven't had a chance to get that amp over to the Rotel guy at the Home Theater Store yet. I've been slam busy, but I was in Omaha this past weekend to see Gordon Lightfoot perform (my buddy bought great seats then flew me up!). This weekend there's a wedding out of town. The next weekend I'll be too busy working...

    I don't know...

I asked PSB about the cut resistor, and whether it was a crossover common to several models that they modified, and this was the response:
We don't do that. The most we would do is use the same PCB for different models.

The schematic I have on file looks like the 30R Resistor is across the other Resistor, so during Production it could have been cut to make them a Acoustic match for each other (Putting a 30R across a 4R Resistor would only change it to be about a 3R5).

But by the sounds of it, it looks like you have found out that it is the Crossovers for sure. Without looking at it myself, I can not tell you much more then to check all the parts. Sorry. Maybe try looking for Bad Solder Joints, Cracks in the Traces, it could also be a intermittent lead on one of the parts.

So, I asked them for a copy of the schematic. Maybe I can figure out something from that.

    Sounds like my schedule!
Did every bride in America plan her wedding for 07/07/07???

I understand most tried. I'm very disappointed in my cousin, the groom, for allowing such silliness.

It sounds like they were very helpful and hopefully they do send you a copy of the schem.I hope you get them working. They are supposed to be good sounding speakers when functioning properly.I ve only heard the Stratus Gold which is a quite different design than the Silver and Bronze but it is a very accurate performer.

I think I have just determined that the diodes on both hi-pass filters are no bueno. They are yellow, and they read:
    ICC
    YM105-1K
    1/100/1ohm T

My guess means that these are a 1/100 ratio signal diode with 1 ohm forward and 100 ohms back. I don't know what the rest is. Any ideas?

Ive never seen a diode in a crossover but it must provide some protection. You could jumper it and see if that works.I bet it does.

Yeah, I was just looking in my speaker cookbook, and was just noticing that there were no diodes in the diagrams. Jumping it is a very good idea. Thanks. I may not ever be able to find the exact replacement, so I may have to determine exactly what this thing does.

It is most likely a device to protect the tweeters from thermal overload .They may have sustained damage from excessive levels but did their job of protecting the tweets. It won't hurt to try bypassing them.
