Grant Fidelity B-283, formerly known as the Yaqin Tube Buffer.

It's pretty sweet. I have always wanted to play with tubes, and I thought this was a good way to start.

more info

I have been messing with it for about two days and really like the results. Right now I am using it to add a tubed output stage to my DAC.

Hehe, just wanted to show it off...

These babies have always been bright and forward in the treble, that was the main reason I looked into tubes... So far so good!

Cool, I recognize the tweeters. I think they are titanium early to mid 90's version. Does the tube buffer tame them down?

Why not just get speakers that are not bright and forward?

Yea, that's what I was thinking.

First, you can't just go out and buy every speaker in the world and try them one after the other... you eventually have to settle on one that has most of the qualities that you can afford.

Second, these are NEARFIELD monitors. The playing field when it comes to this kind of gear is not the same as the world of audiophilia.

Third, I wouldn't have a use for my killer new tube buffer... duh!

But seriously, not all of us can afford Genelecs when it comes to the nearfield. Besides, I don't need active monitors, so again, the selection narrows. I restored these speakers myself. I upgraded the woofers to a more advanced one that JBL offers for this line, and I did a few other mods and ends.

Yes, early 90's vintage. They were fun to upgrade and restore. The tube buffer does indeed take a little of the edge off. The tube sound is certainly growing on me.

It's hard to find a pair of speakers like this that sound good 3 feet from your face, and I do some music production, so I get the tonal accuracy of studio monitors, and with the tube buffer, the warming effect makes them quite musical.

That's the funniest thing I have read in a long time. Thanks.

Waaaaa......that seemed perfectly clear to me.

Cool looking piece, glad your first step into tubes was a good one for you.
