I am somewhat of a new comer to the car audio scene I was seating at home last night pondering how many amps can a 100 amp Alternator with a Die Hard battery Power... Of course this is the standard set up. I also need enough power to run the car as well.... I was thinking about using 3 Rocker Fosgate Punch 60 amps is that enough juice or do you guys think I was will be frying alternator like eggs??? hit me up I'd like to know what the pro's think!

to see how much amps your system draws take P=IV you know your power fo all your amps add them up then devide by the viltage of the car this will tell you how many amps max your amps will draw lets say you have 1200 wats rms your amps will draw 83 amps whitch i am running on a stock alt and battery

hey... 3 fosgates that have 60 amps worth of fuses on each will do at most 180 before cooking the amps --- this means u wil get like a 110 - 120 amp draw nominally (which is all u gotta worry about).

dont worry about frying alternators.. its rare... I run two mtx 81000d's (100 amps nominal draw each) three jbl gts 180 x1's (18 amps nominal each) = 254 amps of current off of just my normal stock dodge(denso) 117 amp alternator and two energizer 900 CCA batteries (lil better than the die hards.. and 20 bucks cheaper each).

as far as capacitors, tehyre' overrated -- i run 3, maybe going to bump up to 4, but all a cap is good for is smoothing out dips of a very small magnitued... you better hae the right number of batteries before you worry about caps... caps can prevent a problem, but they'll never fix a problem.

hell you can get abattery for what you pay for one cap -- i'd rather have the battery.

off that 100 amp alternator -- since you're not marginally insane like i am -- you can probably draw a solid 150 -165 amps before you run into trouble with damaging the alt. -- ifyo'ure going to do that though, i do highly suggest you get a 2nd battery.

i'm noticing myself that with 250 ish i'm going to need another batt and probably a bigger alt.i would say going 50% over alternator capacity is not a big deal at all as long as u've got another batt.

    have fun :o)
