Confused about Polk brands?

I've decided to purchase a set of Polk in-wall speakers for my home theatre system, but I'm a little confused about the various brands they offer. Unfortunately, there isn't a local distributor who has them setup, so I kinda need to go with the advice of others that may have heard them.

With that said, is there a discernible difference between the Polk RC, SC, TC and LC series? Which series is preferred most by audiophiles and why?

Also, what subwoofer should I pair with a Polk system?

Thanks,
Kelly

Welcome to Club Polk Kelly. I don't have any experience with in walls, but I am sure someone will chime in with some good advice. They will probably ask what your listening preference is(music or HT), and what you are driving them with. The size of your room. That info would be helpful to answer your questions.

    Again Welcome

RC-Entry level speakers. Sound good for the money
SC-Custom Installation series(available through specialty shops and custom installers). Share many of the same characteristics as the TC series. This series is voice matched to the RTi series, which are good for home theater environments. Sound even better for the money.
TC: Mid-level in-wall series. Again, comparable to the RTi series.
LC: Higher end sound, comparable to the LSi's. There is dramatic difference in sound from the other series. Overall, they are much better speakers, and sound good for music and movies.

The LCi series are impressive. You'd be hard pressed to tell that they are in-walls. I understand the LCi-RTS are even better.

Are all of the Polk in-wall speakers sold in pairs or individually? The reason I ask is that amazon.com appears to sell some in pairs and some individually. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/103-1943472-6650266?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=polk+tC65i&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go

Here are some more details about my situation.

I'm considering some Polk In-Wall speakers for a home theater located in a finished attic that's already pre-wired. The room is approximately 16' wide x 23' long and will have a 96" fixed screen mounted on the 16' wall and a Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector which will mount on the ceiling approximately 15' away.

Here are the speakers I'm considering:
    Front: Polk RC85i
Rear: Polk RC80i (ceiling) or Polk RC65i (rear sides)

Both rear or ceiling speakers will be positioned approximately 16' away from the screen, which is where the seating will be. I'm not sure what to use for the center speaker. My audio installer is recommending that I simply use another RC85i, which would be cost effective, but I see that Polk now makes an LCi-C center speaker.

Is this speaker setup a good choice for my home theater? If so, which rear and center speakers should I go with?

    Thanks,
    Kelly

What are you going to power them with? I think most people here would recommend getting floor standing speakers, and maybe a nice center speaker. As for a sub the most popular by far is an SVS. Budget is really a factor here.

Gotta correct Ben on this one. SVS is the most popular sub on this forum (I think, HSU is #2 here). You go to any audio forum - club polk, audio circle, audiogon, etc etc., and it seems every forum has its own favourite brand for speakers, subs, amps, etc.
    Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies
Carada 106" Precision Series (Classic Cinema White)
    Denon AVR-X3600H pre/pro
    Outlaw 770 7-channel amplifier
    B&W CDM1-SE fronts
    B&W CDM-CNT center
    B&W CDM1 rears on MoPADs
    JBL SP8CII in-ceiling height speakers
    Samsung DTB-H260F OTA HDTV tuner
    DUAL NHT SubTwo subwoofers
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-Ray player
    Belkin PF60 Power Center
Harmony 1100 RF remote with RF extender
Sony XBR-X950G 55" 4K HDR Smart TV + PS3 in the living room

Yes I stand corrected. The SVS is the most popular sub on this forum. Which says something about the SVS subs. Most of us love Polk speakers yet point to another company for subs. I have had some Polk subs in my vehicles, and they are nice, tight, musical subs.;)

    Subwoofer!

Although Polk is coming out with several different new subs later on this year that might be worth looking at.
