A question on amps and crossovers

Quick question which was bothering me yesterday and today.
Theoritcally if I have a pair of speakers that have a -3db point at 80hz and nothing usable below 60hz, would crossing them over at 60hz make the amp work less?
Like just say there was a 30hz signal being sent but the speaker can't reproduce it, the amp will still amplify the signal right? But does this stress the amp trying to reproduce a signal that won't be played as much as if the speaker could dig down that low?
I always assumed that the amp still reproduced the signal but it wasn't stressed as much in this scenario since the speaker can't play the signal. Am I wrong in this assumption?
Thanks.

It doesn't really stress the amp, more so the speaker would be stressed, it is also a waste of power if the speaker can't reproduce it. If you run the x-over between 60-80hz it will help to clean up the sound of those speakers(as it won't be trying to reproduce sound it can not).
