Ebony vs. Cherry

Not to bring up another one of those "Cables do/don't make a difference" type threads, but it's Friday and I don't have anything better to do. ;)

Anyways, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on some LSi 9s or 15s and wanted to get some various responses on why people chose the color they chose!

Obviously things like decor, furniture, other components, etc come into play but I also was wondering about people's preferences. I am leaning towards Ebony due to it being more neutral but I must admit the Cherries look pretty sweet!!! :D Especially in that "artsy pics" thread!!!

So, let me know your thoughts...Ebony or Cherry?

cherry always for me.. that cherry finish just pop's out at you... stunning looking. every other speaker manufacturer makes ebony... not that many make affordable cherry veneer. :) props to Polk for making the cherry speakers.

    I have both..
I like the Cherry for the living room, and the ebony for my office !

The way to chose the color, IMO, is to see what looks best with the rig it`s attached to, and the room it`s in

    IMO, of course..!!

I am going to get some **** for this, but I really don't like either finish to be honest....I did like the pictures I saw when someone took off the wood sides and the whole speaker was piano black however....

And piano black is a great universal finish...It can go almost anywhere and look elegant...I think a set of speakers like these should make a statement, and nekid they make more of one than with the side panels...Not that they should be a "sore thumb" so to say, but they should have a presence in the room, command some attention...One day I will own a "pretty" set of speakers....

Are you talking to me? Are YOU talking to ME?

    JK :D

If you were asking me...nothing much to speak of right now.

We are in the process of looking for & buying a house by the end of the year...so I am in the process of planning, shopping, & buying a/v equip. Mostly audio since I am not sure what the HT room will be able to hold, handle, etc.

I figure if I shop for audio right now, I can always fit it into a room somewhere...living room, family room, game room, audio room :D

    Laz,
while a pretty good looking wood you got there.. it's a bit to reddish for my tastes.

i'd like something with more brown in it myself.

looks like a cool project though.

My 7's are piano black and look great (in my opinion). You can click on the lsi7 link in my sig to see pics of me removing the sides. (can also click on the quote in my sig to see them in my showcase.)

For surround use, I think the piano black blends alot better with the room and the LSi 15's up front.

From a value standpoint the cherry is a better investment, resale value is higher.

I think the cherry for the LSi lineup is just too sexy to pass up, but the high gloss black does look amazing as well.

I have no idea what the future holds as far as additional upgrades for me but I think not all of the LSi Series are offered in Cherry??? LSi f/x  LSiC  Not too sure about the Sub...also not sure if I would want it based on the discussions here.

I like the piano black finish. While the cherry looks better than the black, which in the light looks more brown than black. I would get black since that is the color of all the rest of my gear.

I think the cherry with the high gloss black is more striking looking(gives contrast), but the Ebony is more subtle looking, and can blend in to a rooms decor better(it is more neutral). Tough choice!

I see the same thing with my RTi70s. They're listed as black, but look more like a dark chocolate to me.
