I replaced my Behringer A500 amp with an RBH RAM-200 subwoofer amp. Just wanted to try something new and get a real subwoofer amp with crossover and phase features. Still trying to get the "auto-on" to work, though. Not surprisingly, the RBH is a bit cleaner than the Behringer. In fact, it's almost too clean for HT (sub is not used for music). The power output is about the same. I almost have to max out the volume to drive my 15" DIY sub. Here's some pics...
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I am curious; why would this be too clean for HT use?
I said it was "almost" too clean. I have to get accustomed to hearing less boominess. I like it, though, because I can turn it up even higher without distortion.
Some people, myself included, divide subwoofers into two broad categories -- music and HT. A "musical" sub is very tight, accurate, and fast, and can distinguish between various bass notes. An HT sub is very powerful and impactful, plays loud, and a bit boomier than a musical sub. An HT sub doesn't have to be very accurate or tight because in a movie, you don't want your explosions, for example, to sound "musical." Although it sounds great for movies, I wouldn't consider using my HT sub for music.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

No reason a musical sub can't be powerful and impactful. I don't like boominess for music or HT.
