im getting 2 new 12" polk SR subs. i have a phoenix gold octane-r 15.0:1 to power them and i need to know some info about boxes for these subs. the box i have for the sub i have now (xtant x1244) was custom built for me by someone who is no longer able to help me. so for this box, do i want it to be ported or sealed? and i know the reccomended sealed box dims are .88 cu ft. but i cant find the reccomended ported box dims. anyone know these dimensions or have a good box in mind for me? i havnt really done too much looking, but i found this box - http://www.cardomain.com/item/OBCGZ32812 .. its a ported box but i dont know how much air space is reccomended for the polk sr124-dvc.
opinions and advice would be helpful and appreciated :)
System in construction.. :)

I think this sub was made to be in a sealed encolosure. The .88 is net volume (after taking the driver's displacement into account), you will want to get a box that has 1.02 cubic feet of air space. Finding a prefab box that is 1.0 cubic foot will be fine.

I recommend sealed - and Id go with a 1.25 box if you can.

The bigger box would give you more low end extension. If you can swing the space, I would give that a shot. If not some polyfill comes in handy too.

while i've not installed SR's - i will say this... i prefer (as a general rule) to use the smallest reccomended sealed enclosure. while it doesn't give as much low end extension, it does allow me to generally play the subs at a louder volume (they'll handle slightly more power due to the increased suspension of a slightly tighter box). that's just a preference though.

as far as essentials... the PG Octane amp is (and I am not trying to insult at all) not a good choice. They're generally a **** product. PG Tantrum series was superb, but they've long been discontinued. If you end up amp shopping, the guys on here can point you in the right direction, I haven't been buying equipment in a while, so I'm not completely up to snuff on the latest and greatest.

Vinny is right. The smaller box will give it more power handling but the larger box will give you the flatest response curve.

However, some people like the bump in response the smaller box gives so its not really a bad way to go. But if youre wanting the flattest, more accurate reproduction from your sub, then a bigger box is what youre after.
