HD-DVD question...

Have a quick question for first generation HD-DVD player owners. I currently have an XA1 with 2.2 firware update now using 5.1 audio outs thanks to the Zektor MAS7.1 switcher, now using both the Sony Blu-Ray and the Toshiba 5.1 outs. Anyway, what settings are you guys/gals using in the speaker setup menu of your HD-DVD players. I know at one point people were complaing that the subwoofer output of the 1st gen. players was incorrect and from what I've heard the 2.2 FW has corrected or improved this. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

You can decrease the speaker level if your LFE level is off, on other forums others have said its off about 10db. Im running the 2.2 software myself and found no further issues with the LFE, however Im still running mine at about -4db. Try playing with the settings until you find whats good for you bro. Im using the A1 myself.

    Grimster,

I use HDMI on my XA1 and don't have any issues. I believe you might of been correct about the analog out LFE issue at one point, and I believe fimware 2.0 took care off it all?

I set all my speakers to LARGE in the player, and let my AVR shape the sound from there. I don't want the player to do any BM at all.

My A1 is connected to my HK via 5.1 analogs. Speakers set to small. Sub set to use. Crossover set at 80hz. All the levels set to 0 db, I let my HK do all the level settings.

Anybody have a copy of the 2.0 firmware they would be willing to part with. Just got the chance to try and watch a movie with the 2.2 FW installed and guess what, dead in the water. I keep getting "NO HDMI LINK" message on the player itself. Up until I installed 2.2, never had a problem with 2.0 FW.

What? Are you serious, the lastest firmware was a fix with the DVI-HDMI link. Not sure why youre getting the error message, however it should not be happening. The only thing I suggest is a call to Toshiba, or either hit the AVS forum or HTF and see if someone can send you a copy. If you look around the AVS forum, the DVI-HDMI connection was a huge failure across the board, so therefore 2.2 was released to rectify the issue. I would say check all cable connections as well. Let me know, out.

Here is the deal, I'm using HDMI all the way threw now. After I installed the new Zekto MAS7.1 switcher I no longer need the pre/pro as a switcher which did require me to use HDMI/DVI adapters. I even went threw and checked all cable which work fine and even ran an HDMI cable directly from the XA1 to the projector and still the same thing. The Sony Blu-Ray and the satellite box both work fine threw the Zektor.

As far as the 5.1 audio outputs and the LFE drop, a workaround was posted at highdefdigest.com. I think it had something to changing a setting on the digital out (I know, it makes no sense).

All is good now. I ended up downloading 2.0 from 1080x1920.net and burned the file, downloaded it into the player, fired it up and all is good again.
