Bi Amp Question

I just got an Adcom 555II and I have Monitor 40 speakers. I was wondering if I can remove the jumper on the speaker and run all 4 inputs to the speakers from the Adcom. I am new at this and I am getting a lot of knowlege from this group. By the way this is a 2 channel rig only.

Thanks

:)

I think you are trying to bi-wire. Does your amp have two sets of outputs for each speaker?

The 555II is a 2ch. amp if I remember correctly...You will need a set of speaker cables that have two conductors on the amp end and four on the speaker end...I don't know if you will honestly hear a difference by bi-wiring your speaks, let your ears make the decision...check out response #19 on this thread.....This is really an interesting observation, and he is a trusted member on more than one forum I frequent....

Yes the 555II is a 2 channel amp. It only has 2 outputs. I guess reading between the lines if I want a real improvment I would need a second amp to run the second set of connections to the speakers?

    Thanks

No real improvements will be had by bi-amping the 40's.

Bi-amping is the practice of connecting two audio amplifiers to a loudspeaker unit: one to power the bass driver (woofer) and the other to power the treble driver (tweeter). A single amplifier can usually power a woofer and a tweeter only through a crossover filter, which protects each driver from signals outside its frequency range. However, the crossovers themselves waste power; bi-amping works around this problem by putting crossover networks before the amplifiers rather than between amplifiers and loudspeakers.

The technique is primarily used in large-scale audio applications such as sound amplification for concerts, in portable powered speakers and by hi-fi enthusiasts.

The term derives from the prefix bi-, meaning 'two', and amp, a contraction of 'amplifier'.

Bi-wiring is a means of connecting a loudspeaker to an audio amplifier, primarily used in Hi-fi equipment. Normally, a single cord (two conductors) runs from the amplifier output to the terminals at the loudspeaker housing. From this point, connections are made to the loudspeaker elements - most often through crossover networks. In bi-wiring, two cords are run from the amplifier output to the speaker cabinet - one to the high frequency or tweeter element and one to the low frequency element (through their respective crossover networks). It has been suggested that this would somehow improve sound quality; however, this has not been proved by measurements or properly conducted listening tests. From an electrical point of view, the two ways of making connections are, in principle, equivalent.
I guess you need 2 amp to bi-amping.

if a particular speaker is power hungry, then biapming can make a world of diffeence. I know my AR9's were a near night and day difference when biamped. I just dont know if the Monitor 40 fits that bill. A good speaker, dont get me wrong, but a single Adcom 555 is giving it more than enough power to run at its best.
