You may be thinking of bird's eye maple, which that is not. What it is, I'm not quite sure, but I am quite sure that I don't like it.

    Agreed. Not picturesque.

The color takes away from the beauty of the grain.. Could you imagine it in a rich cherry... I can...

Sorry, but to me that looks like something you'd match with a fake zebra skin patterned sofa. Not pretty, just distracting.

"The Signature 805’s exterior finishes are another story, offering the same choice of drop-dead-gorgeous, hand-selected, hand-rubbed finishes as the original Signature models: gray Tiger’s Eye or red Bird’s Eye veneers. To me, the gray Tiger’s Eye is especially striking." One man's drop dead is another man's isore.

It's not that the finish is ugly, but that the speakers themselves are just ugly.

The more pricy B&Ws are just plain ugly with their tweeter pods and such.

I like the look and sound of their more traditional speakers, like say, the CM1, but these, or any of the other tweeter pod speakers, would never find a place in my home.

If I hate how a speaker looks, I am going to sit there and TRY to find fault in their sound. A good looking speaker, on the other hand, I will try to find it's strengths because I would be wanting to keep it. I could imagine letting a few imperfections in sound slide, if I was truly attached to a certain speaker.
