Welcome,,, what type of tweeters?--peerless?,,If not,Polk sells a silk dome replacement,,as far as the mids go, you could shop around e-pay,,or call Polk C.S. for replacements. Good luck,,,powered by the right gear, 7's can be very sweet.:)JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Also be sure to pull the mid driver and get the correct model MW.......Polk used a few different models of drivers and they all have slightly different sonic and electrical characteristics.

Ok so it's a tweeter that's bad. Do your 7's have a fuse on the back? If so, check it and make sure it's not blown. If no fuse, try swapping with the other good tweeter (I assume the other is fine). If the tweeter is in fact bad you need to get another one. The model # is sl2000. From time to time used ones are FS in our flea market. Polk makes a new replacement but it's not exactly the same and you *should* buy them in pairs for proper timbre matching.
The cost is $48 each plus tax shipped, tell them you ar Club Polk member to get the discount.

both tweeters seem to work ok, no fuse on the back of the cabinet, the one driver is basically locked outward and will crunch if i try to push it inward. somebody must have cranked them pretty good, the one working speaker sounds ok but i figured i might as well change both drivers at the same time, the initial cost was only 15 bucks. so why not spend a little more and know they are both new.

Alright, a little miscommuniction here, when you stated you had an "silver coil dome" I thought you meant that was the bad driver."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. sorry, thats what is says in small lettering above the tweeter .

The best thing to do is pull both drivers and make sure they are both the same model. MWxxxx. Once we know what drivers you have then we can proceed from there. Some of the odler drivers are no longer avail from Polk so you have to buy used, which for $15 you mentioned was a used driver."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. is the bad driver the one in the middle?--midrange driver should have a model number stamped on the back--mw -xxxx,if thats the culprit,I would suggest that you change both,if you are buying the newer replacements.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
-
both drivers are mw-6502 and that was 15 bucks for the set of speakers, gotta love yard sales.
-
what are the newer replacements like ?
-
do u have any information about the new replacements for a mw-6502?
-
no, but call Polk CS,they can tell you.sorry that I could not be of more help.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

jay-jay, if you buy a replacement from Polk Audio.. get two of them.. even if you only need one.. and replace the MW6502's in both monitor 7's.. that way they'll have the same sound.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

are the mw-6502 and the mw-6503 basically the same ?
-
If I remember correctly, the 6502 are only used by the speakers (such as Monitor 5 and 7) that have single mid-bass driver, and the 6503's are for speakers (such as Monitor 10, SDA's etc, RTA's etc) that have multiple mid-bass drivers. However, 6503 maybe the only replacement from Polk. Give them a call, if they OK, then it must be OK.
