Come on guys! I need help. I'm not really sure what constitutes an upgrade in a universal player. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Sorry, I use a separate player for music and a separate player for video. Good Luck.

I won't upgrade until the HD format war is closer to its end, since neither HD-DVD or Blueray is considered universal yet.

I just upgraded my Universal Onkyo to a NAD T572 DVD/CD player. I'm very pleased with the results as there is a very noticeable improvement.

You are going to spend a lot of coin to upgrade from that player.....That said, the Marantz DV-9600 would be a step up....I have a DV-8300, which is about on par with yours...So would the Denon 5910....

The Denon 3910 is the successor to the 2900. There is then the 3930 which is the successor to the 3910.

I'm also in the market for a new universal player and for price reason i'm looking at the 3910. It retailed for $1500 (<>$1200 street price) when it was new in 2005, and can be had for today for between $400-600.

Supposedly the 3910 is quite a good upgrade to the 2900 in every way, audio being one of the most noticable improvement areas.

What is the 2900 not doing for you, besides not upconvert? I have the 2900 also. To acheive better audio performance I added an outboard Dac. I am waiting for the format war to end also. Otherwise a PS3 would be in my rack with the new upconverting upgrade.

Another choice might be the Pioneer Elite DV46A.
