Update - Amp and Sub install in 03 CIVIC Trunk

Alrighty, so since i got my wires, im starting to set everything up including wiring so when i get it, i just pop everything in. Tonight me and my buddy got some good think ply wood, cut it to size and shape for the trunk as a strong level base, covered the spare tire and made it all level. I plan to mount the box in the rear of the trunk towards the seats, the amps side by side in front of that towards the bumper area, and the crossovers for the rear components between the 2 amps.
This pic is my planed layout, however the box wil not be angled, it was just easy to do that in the layout

If youre going to have the subs firing into the cabin, its best to build an airtight compartment keeping the waves from bouncing back into the trunk and then back into the cabin which will cause a lot of cancellation.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

subs are in a sealed enclosure and will be facing away from my back seat in the trunk, bolted down to that wood that i layed, which will be bolted down over some dynamat
that okay?2013 Toyota Prius

Yeah. If theyre facing to the rear of the trunk then the wave that bounces back into the cabin will be more in phase. Youll still get some cancellation but not nearly as much. The only downside to this way is that it will rattle the trunk more.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

this is whey they invented dynamat
use a lot of it, and if you have a pass-through of any kind, try to keep the box away from at least some of it... if you have the freedom of positioning, put the box in several different positions and listen to it, then bolt it down where it sounds best (keeping in mind that at least a phase change may help, if you don't have time alignment available). experiment before drilling holes in anything, if you can.
i don't know about civics in particular, but i've also known people to get good results by opening up a 6x9 hole or two in the rear deck and covering it with a grille... something to consider - mac, you have an opinion on this? It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

i give you kudos... a lot of guys don't have enough sense to build a floor for their equipment. you, obviously, do. by doing so, you enable yourself to bolt everything down with as many screws or whatever the hell you need, without drilling amillion holes in the floor of your car. just a few to hold the fake floor down. also, it's super flat, no dips or ****. good job on the 'planning' of this build. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge

I already have a small hole in the center of my rear deck between the 6.5 Speakers, i had book shelfs in my trunk before and it really helped out to get the sound in my car.
As far as the dynamat, im going to cover every square inch of the trunk in it, i got a heat gun and a roller for even more help w/ it, i know the extreeme doesnt need it. then im going to bolt the box and amps in (nuts and bolts so u cant take them out easily, then screw the Fake floor as u called it into the car. Already protected my license plate w/ some foam too. I cant wait to see/hear the finish project, ill keep u guys updated, im expecting the dynamat tomarow, if that doesnt take all day i should be able to run the wires.2013 Toyota Prius

pass through = a hole in the rear deck to let sound through ... so basically what you said you already have cut into your back deck.
I have 2 small 8" subs firing under the back deck of the old man's caddy... they sit about an inch and a half under the deck and have a 6 x 9 " hole that they fire up at... i put an old 6x9 black mesh grille over the hole and nobody sees a thing.. worked out very well. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
i was referring to a pass-through as the hole the wall between the trunk and the cabin, where you can fold down the seat and, depending on the car, put anything from a pair of skis to a plank of plywood through... with the hole(s) in the rear deck, though, this nuance becomes more or less irrelevant. It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

K so i did most of the wiring today, take a look, also i got that plywood carpeted.
as far as the wiring, the protective rubber sleeve, for the first time in my life, made me want to have somthing loose to push into, it was so tight i couldnt get 2 fingers in.

K so like i said above the speakers dont fit int he door, window is too close and hole is too small. would my best bet be to cut the actualy door panel and mount the speaker on a lard spacer and have my speaker grill go over the door pannel?2013 Toyota Prius

Nice work! Keep it up.

hey..I'm about to do an install in my gf's '05 Civic Hybrid. Do you know if your Civic has the same interior?
I got her some Polk Momo 6.5" coaxials for the front and rear....so you are saying the factory holes are not 6.5? What are they? What did you end up doing to fit 6.5's?
Also, is there anywhere where you could fit a 4-channel amp (say a small one like the Alpine PDX) besides the trunk? Under the chair or in a kick panel or something?
Any other little pitfalls for installing in this car? -
umm im prety sure the interior is the same, or close to it, i just had to cut a bit of the door2013 Toyota Prius

do you know if the rear deck speakers are the same size hole as the doors? also where is the best place to mount an amp in this car?
-
they are the same size, i didnt need to cut the back, i used the provided spacers and 2 layers of dynamat and it had enough room, just be carefull with the window in the front.
Amp i would say in the trunk or on the back of the rear seat.2013 Toyota Prius
