Well I couldn't resist, my copy just arrived today along the 200gm pressings of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Belll" and Led Zepplin's first LP.

Now I have almost as many copies as Wardweb!:D

I have so many new remastered pressings that it may be awhile 'till I get to these, although I have been known to wake up in the middle of the night and start playing music . . . this addiction is as bad as smoking.

I don't have the MoFi "Aja", but I ordered the new Aja release and the Doors Box-set, mastered by Bernie Grundman. I will let you know how it sounds, but hey Steely Dan ALWAYS paid great detail to recording engineering. Fagen is the master. "Nightfly" shoulda been on my Top-10 list, again showing there is no such thing as a "Top-10".

Absolute Sound /Oct music review sez of this new lp rough quote...
Recording approved by Fagen and Becker.
The Cisco lp is 1st rate, they did not use any compression.
Ultra clean if rather sterile sounding sonics.
Fine sense of air around/between instruments.
    Not oodles of depth.
    Soundstage wide and upfront.
    Laser sharp focus.
All the percussion inst have an unusual delicacy.
Drums have terrific feeling of weight, punch, transient speed.
Fagens voice natural as he's ever heard.
    Backups sound rich/seductive.

First off I checked out your showcase . . . very nice and very impressive. I have the new TAS but haven't gotten to it yet.

Secondly, I can't wait to compare this new version to the MFSL Original Master Recording. I really have my doubts that this new version can hold a candle because it is soooooo well done my ****. Of all the descriptions above one of the great things this new version does so well, with the **** there IS OODLES of depth. I wonder how with a 200 gm pressing usually being so quiet that wouldn't have the depth perception that goes along with a low noise floor?

Thankyou, hearingimpared for the kind words.

Of all the descriptives WG(Wayne Garcia?)used 'oodles' was one I was tempted to put a smiley by. If there's dimensionality and depth to the artists and sound stage isn't forshortened I'm pretty happy.
Love the thought of no additional compression. I like that in many of Steely Dans recordings, turning it up rewards with more & more in the mix appearing.
Absolute as you know scores perf/sonics. He 'WG' scored the performance 2.5 boxes, not a fan I guess, and sonics 4 boxes.
I like Aja/SD like so many here, even though I don't play it so much anymore because I've played it a gazillion times.
It so happens I did listen to Deacons Blues and some cuts from 11 Tracks of Whack last night on the Squeezebox.
Hope none of this is a spoiler...long live the Hipsters.

Hmmm I usually concur with Wayne Garcia's tastes but this time I think he is way off. . . performance 2.5??? Sonics 4? Maybe on this version but not the **** . . . it's the same performance though. . .I think he drank a little too much the night he was listening to it. You know how beer ears can be!!!

Now I gotta read his review and listen to the new version!

I still like the MoFi :-)

... and, as far as performance(s) go, Aja is unassailable.
That said, it's a little bit emotionally sterile; I think at this late date the first Dan album (Can't Buy a Thrill) is my favorite. Thirty years ago, it was Aja, though.
