Psw111

Hi,

I picked up a PSW111 at HHGregg today ($269 seemed like a pretty good deal) and was wondering if anyone else has experience with this sub. For lack of a better way to describe it, it just sounds kind of "small". I don't think I hear much bass.

I have a Pioneer VSX-816 receiver, a pair of Bose 301's for the front speakers, and a Bose center speaker that I can't remember the model number of (I plan on replacing the Bose stuff next month.).

The sub is hooked up to the "sub preout" on the receiver and the LFE jack on the sub.

Thanks,

Andy

I'm no expert in audio, as you can see this is my first post.
I bought the same sub and had the same initial impression, I was disappointed.
Then I played with the receiver settings (onkyo tx-sr505) and set the sub output to +12dB. The sub was so powerfull that even at very low volume it made me want to throw up after listening to 2 songs. I now have it to only +1dB and it's good enough for my appartment. So try to play with your receiver settings.
I also set my crossover to the max (200Hz or so) on the sub since my receiver's auto config set it to 120Hz. The phase is on 180.

Overall I noticed there isn't much bass when watching HDTV with Dolby 5.1 but as soon as I listen to music I can feel the bass.

    I hope that helps.

Very musical little sub. I use one in the master bedroom hooked up to an iSonic. I plugged the port on the iSonic and the combo is jaw dropping. Just doing a couple rough sweeps, I'm about 3db at 31Hz (low E on the bass guitar) in room. It drops off pretty quick after that.

Hell of a little sub, and looks great to boot.

    Cheers,
    Russ

    spazthecat and peoe2,

welcome to Club Polk... there are quite a few knowledgeable people in here who post on a regular basis... stick around and ask questions.. no question is to small or to big or even to stupid.

    enjoy your stay.
    :)

Suggestion, I would run your fronts on small, that way it'll send more of the LFE/bass signal to your subwoofer. Or if possible you may want to move the subwoofer to a corner wall... that may cause the subwoofer to become slightly boomy, so play around with placement.
Subwoofer placement does indeed have an affect on it's output.

    good luck.
