Has anyone demo'd the Velodyne 1812? I just looked at it on their website because somebody mentioned it in the WTB forum. That thing looks like it should kick some serious rear.

The power cord on that beast is manufactured by our own Frank Dai, of www.signalcable.com
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

interesting concept with the 2-way design. Are there other "2-way" subs out there? (I'm not talking about 2 driver designs like the PSW1000)

Frank's power cord is going to need to be pretty thick cable to handle the current that beast must draw.

My NHT SubTwo is a "2-way design". If you want something cheaper, Sony SA-WX700 is 2-10" push-pull. If you want speaker + radiator design, I just got myself Earthquake Supernova MKII-12, and will be posting a review hopefully in July :)

I'm not looking for a sub, I just saw this beast and wondered if anyone had heard it. I'm guessing it has all the thunderous bass a person could ask for HT, but nice tight response for music.

Are you sure that your subtwo is a 2 way design in the same sense that the Velo 1812 is? ...an no way any speakers that say Sony on the front will make it into my rigs anytime soon.

That cable is thick as hell...I've got one on my Sunfire...It's a stout cable man, hospital grade plug, and looks good to top it all off...My only complaint about it is that I really wish it was a little more flexible, but for the performance, I can deal with the stiffness...

I've heard them running sweeps through multiple 1812s at Velodyne, but no real world demos. Their test lab is supposed to be sound shielded (not proof), but the whole building pressurizes anyway.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

That looks to be a great sub. Velodyne is one of the better sub makers.

I don't think I can ask for much more from my Velodyne CHT-120 at the pricepoint it was at when I bought it. I know there are much better subs out there though.

You can get better performance out of 2 DD18's for cheaper though. Some people have tested it & show that the 2 different drivers dont really blend too well, as you would expect them to do for the money they want for one.

I've heard the DD 18 (digital drive) and they are very very nice sounding subs. I have no idea about the 1812, but at that cost I'm not sure it's better than the DD18 (price vs. perf ratio)
