Flare Port or Not

I am going to build a bandpass enclosure for a DVC 8" DB woofer. I am going to follow the sample enclosure described on Polk's website.

Does anyone know if those ports have any noise from turbulence?

Would a flare port add much to that design?

Thanks
Bradley

any port has turbulence noise (if you've never experienced a ported box, it's truly amazing how fast air rushes through that thing when the sub's at full bore - we're talking several percent of the speed of sound)

flare ports will not take much of the 'whoosh' out, but they will eliminate any whistling on the corners of the port. in a bandpass design, this is particularly important, because all the sound you get is from the port, so any optimisation you do there will be good.

i'd say do it, as it's almost no effort to do so and can yield significant benefits
