Bryston 9bSST and Bryston SP-2.... Anyone?

Hey guys, in my search for amplifiers to run my 7 channel LSi system, I came a cross what appears to be a very good deal this MINT setup. Those of you that know HI-FI, know that Bryston builds some seriously high quality gear. It is, priced as great as it is, quite a bit out of my price range! I am in the market for stuff in the Rotel/Outlaw/Parasound range, and used at that. Not quite in the Bryston, Lexicon, Krell range!
Anyways, a quick audiogon check shows a 9bSST that has sold recently for $3650 I believe, and the SP-2 Pre/Pro listed for about that same price.
I guess I am posting this to see if anyone would be interested in me passing along a great deal. The prices would be significantly less than that. I just don't know if there is a market here on the forum for that kind of gear, or if I would need to take it to Audiogon.
I need to talk to the seller again and see if he still has the original purchase docs, since Bryston has a 20 year TRANSFERABLE warranty. Not bad huh?
I haven't bought them yet, so I can't say a firm price, but please let me know if you are interested.

Pictures?
Not yet. They are both silver, the amp has handles on it. I believe they are the standard 17" wide as well. Bryston.ca has good stock photos of course.
These are still at a local dealer, I will see if I can sneek some photos over the next day or two."People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell -
I'll bet that dealer would be happy to work out a payment plan for you.Political Correctness'.........defined

I am sure he would! I just can't justify that kind of money for myself, I am small time! These would make me feel like I would have to play in the major leagues!"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell

K guys, sounds like it is actually an SP-1 processor, so that isn't worth quite as much as the SP-2. I could sell the SP-1 for about $1600, but the real deal lies in the 9BSST. I could pass that one on to a polkie for $3000. They have sold on the gon in the last week for $3650, so I think that is a deal. If there is anybody interested, I will try to snag some pictures. These are the silver ones.
It has the handles, so I guess it is the rack mount version. If I recall correctly, the processor is rack mount too.

Hmmm. Does he have a 4BSST lying around somewhere?:D

i would also be interested in a 4bsst as i am selling rotel stuff and moving to bryston

No 4bSST guys! Sorry!
I looked at the amp spec sheet, and the amp rated 156 watts into all 5 channels at 8 ohms, RMS. The factory specs are 120 watts RMS x5, and 200 watts rms x5 at 4 ohms. This is a very underrated amp!

Just a clarification ,the amp in the picture is a 9B ST not an SST.There are some differences electronically and cosmetic.Testing

The Audiogon average for the 9B-ST is $2150. The last one sold for $1500, with a high of $2700.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Where are you located? Will you offer a demo? Is this equipment in your posession?Carl

The ST and SST have markedly different sounds. Not that the ST series doesn't sound good, but the SST series made some improvements in several different areas. Bryston does sound good with the LSi's, as long as the source doesn't get in the way too much.
I've enjoyed carrying this line, if for nothing else than for meeting more "audiophiles," some self pronounced, some real. Being the only dealer in the state helps, but I get calls from all over the country, and even internationally (England) at one point. I think the SP-1 can be upgraded to meet the specs of the SP-2, but I can't remember for sure, as I haven't had this request yet.
Also, these are the pro versions, as shown by the rack eyelets and handles, which only come in 19" rack-mountable faceplates.Tschüss

Hmmm, will have to clarify on the 9BSST vs. 9BST. I was told it was an SST. I will let you guys know tomorrow."People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell

Also the unit is not actually a pro unit as it does not have the adjustable gain pot on the back of each channel ,although it does have the 19" rack mountable dress panel. The date code (seen on the back)says it was manufactured in 49th week of 2000.Testing

I pretty sure that the SST modules can be put into an ST chassis with some slight modifications, but since all the modules have the "ST" on the back, I'm guessing that this really is just an ST.
In the ST series you could get rack mount w/o it being the pro version... as GV notes, no gain pots. Now that I think about it, I believe that you could also get rack mount early on in the SST run w/o it being pro- the "SST C" series marked when they stopped doing consumer rack mounts, maybe???
Regardless, $3k is a little steep for these guys. The SP-1 might be a decent deal if you can upgrade it.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

I didn't even look at the back, and I've only been selling them since the SST/C-Series have been out.Tschüss

Well guys, I think I will scrap this then. It doesn't look like these are what I thought they were initially. THey are on consignment at a local high end shop, and they had told me it was a 9BSST, but it is clear that this amp is a 9BST. The great price doesn't look so great anymore, does it?
If anyone is interested, please PM me what you would be willing to pay for a 9BST and an SP-1, and I will let the seller know what these actually are, and I can bring your offer based on the actual model.
From what I understand, the 9BST is still an awesome amp, and those numbers I mentioned are nice!"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell
