Haven't seen this series in years, just have to ask how do the RTA-15's compare to the LS90's?

Very similar sound but i'd choose the LS-90 over the RTA-15tl.

I just picked up a pair of RTA 15TL's this last weekend. Some younger guy had them and I traded him a radiator I had on CL for them. Not too bad of shape cabinet wise, got them home and hooked them up in my garage off an old (20 year old optimus receiver) receiver, neither tweeter worked, pulled them out, on was hooked up but inop, hooked up a infinity car speaker to the wires to check, that worked, tried the other side, pulled tweeter and wires were cut to it, got to check and see if the wires from the crossover still power a speaker. I've seen some replacement tweeters on ebay, any decent ones out there to install without spending a lot of coin? All the drivers seem to work, not much power out of the old receiver (110 watts ch) but when turning them up, they didn't hit all to well. Any driver replacements? I can always get some tweets first and see how it sounds.

What if any is the difference between 15 and 15tl? Does the addition of the "tl" designation on all of the models simply delineate the change to SL3000 tweeters?

call Polk customer svc. and order rdo-198 replacement tweeters. those RTA15's will hit very hard you need a amplifier for those no receiver will ever do them justice. Feed them very good power and hold on.

The RTA 15tl came out after they had switched to a tri-lamate tweeter so they all would of been TL's. Some also say that the T stood for "tower" on the boxes that said RTA15T.

What he said. I have the RTA 11TL's and enjoy them very much. I have also seen the RTA 15TL's and they looked cool and sounded good. Couple notes.

    1. They need to be placed a bit out into the room. Otherwise that rear passive radiator wont work its best.
    2. You need good power. This could be from an older vintage reciever from the 80's, but honestly a better bet would be a nice dedicated amp. I am using a Parasound HCA-750ii on my 11TL's and have yet to get the volume all the way up before I have it loud enough for my tastes. Your 15's really need a dedicated amp. Doesn't have to have TONS of wattage, but something with say 125 to 150 wpc would be a good start. How much wattage you need depends on room size.
    3. As stated the RDO tweeter is a drop in replacement. Polk CS will sell them to you, but let them know your a forum member for a price break on the cost and possibly shipping.

Yup, TL indicates it uses a Tri-Laminate tweeter which IIRC the SL3000 is and the SL200 is not.

Some of the early unit looked to have been labelled only RTA15... But in actuality they were all TL and are the same speaker and tweeter combination
