Anyone know anything about B&W speakers..

This guy is sellling a pair of these towers for $600

and a pair of B&W 603 s3 for $500

I'm in the market for a pair of towers... but I don't know anything about Bowers and Wilkins speakers. I will go listen to both of them.. but I will have to do a little homework on the net before I go over to check em out.

I almost bought a set of 683's, 685's and a HTM62, they sounded very impressive.

Those are OUTSTANDING prices, for phenomenal speakers. Any chance of you getting your ears on them? I've always liked the sound those two **** guys from across the pond make. ;)

    Cheers,

Decided to go another route. I was going to use them for home theater/music. But since I came across a great deal on a 2 ch. amp, I'm going to build 2 separate systems. If I had the money, I'd upgrade the HT speakers and build another system. :D

I got to audition those about a month ago in Nashville, and they are quite spectacular...If they were $600, I wold own them now......they were something like $1400 new...

Some like the B&W speakers...I don't care for them. I've tried to find a pair I really like but only the 800, 801 and 803s and Nautilus are something I would consider and they are beyond my speaker budget price range. I find the lower end B&Ws bright and difficult to listen to for any length of time.

The do however have a great following...so evidently many enjoy them. Maybe you are one of them.

shack, i also hear this model the DM604 may be to bass boomy.. i have read that on more then one review tonight. he is also selling the next model below the 604's. the DM603's which people are saying sound better.

I certainly don't want any pair of speakers that'll be to bright.. as i will probably be keeping them for many years.

I am open to other suggestions in the same $600 price range though... as I am looking for some towers at the moment. Used is all i'm interested in, as i can get more speaker on the used market than I can new. ;)

If anything, and they are in good shape, and you DON'T like them - bag 'em, flip 'em, and double if not more your budget.

I find B&W to be on the laid back side for the most part with clear highs and tight bass. Most of the lower models are a bit bass shy, but thier speed usually makes up for it. B&W also tend to like power, lots of it.

Some people do not like them. I was going to go B&W again for my last upgrade but went Gallo instead.

Isn't it interesting that two people find the same speakers to be complete opposites. I think they are very bright and fatiquing...Venom says laid back. All you engineers and engineer quoters out there....measure that!

LOL, true enough. "British Sound" is usually considered laid back. While I do agree that the tweeter is on the bright side, is more so on the clear side. For example, the tweeter in the old Polk RT Series is bright, yet not very detailed. I had to sell my RT16's because of the muddy bass and bright tweeter that would be a ringer on sharp female voices. The B&W's I had (CDM Series), were very detailed. Norah Jones was glorius on these. They were fantastic with classical and jazz, not as much with rock/rap.

The thought of having to listen to Norah Jones on B&Ws is like fingernails on a blackboard to me since I don't like either one.

I heard a pair of B & Ws last weekend unfortunately I don't know the model number, they were floor standers. Very open and airy sounding. Nice imaging too. I heard the Who, "Live at Leeds" on them and it really made, one of the best ever live recordings, come to life.

You are very consistant Shack:) . . . Norah Jones LPs and SACD are engineered and mixed very well and they sound awesome! but your are right sometimes she over does the whispering singing. I heard a couple of bluesy albums of hers at Jesse's and they were really, really good, the names of the albums escapes me right now.
