How to terminate wires?

I will be installing ceiling speakers and placing my receiver in a built in book shelf.

I will be running the wires/cables through the walls and leaving slack in the ceiling for the speaker. How to I terminate the cable on the receiver end, do I install wall plates and the patch with short cables from the receiver or do I just take the cables through a hole in the wall and plug in to the receiver.

The same for my HDMI and componet cables to my display?

I say use a speaker wall plate much cleaner install. I have rear inwall in my living room wall plate behind the tv ,down low speaker wire going from the plate to the speaker if you need to paint the wall the its all nice and neat either way .....Wall plates all the way or you could run conduit and have a box the wires come out of.

Since the speakers in the ceiling and the reciever will be in fixed posistions I would use a single gang remodel box and 1 decora wall plate to feed all the wires through , leave enough lead to turn the reciever when you need to and skip all the extra cuts and connections. A remodel box is removable to inspect the hollow wall cavity and need not be against a stud + it's a very cheap elegant solution.

i pondered the same situation since i'm currently remodeling my living room and pulled wires for 7.1. I thought about just pulling the wires through a wall plate to eliminate the extra connection (slight signal loss?) there, but decided to go ahead with binding post wall plates (soldered) for the neatness and resell appeal. crawling in my attic was a royal pain that i never want to do again, and replacing a damaged patch cord is easy while also letting me trim the oxidized ends till my heart is content.

interj, if you do decide that the pass through wall plates are best for your setup, I have some like the ones below that I won't be needing now and will sell them for 25% less than shown. I actually purchased them from this seller before I changed my mind about the binding posts type. they are still in the package.

my ebay feedback since i'm relatively new here.

heck... on second thought just cover the shipping, maybe $5? and they're yours if you need them.
