Hello,

I recently started building my system. So far i am running an HK 245, with R50's as my front speakers and a CSI3 as my center channel. (and now im waiting for my next pay check)

I am planning on purchasing the
Velodyne DSP-12B as a SUB

My problem is that i purchased the R50's and they arent as powerful as i would like. So i want to upgrade to the RTI10's for my front speakers and move the R50's to the rear.

My question is what the difference will be between using the R50's as my surrounds to using something like the FXI3's?

To be more specific im wondering what kind of specs you need in rear speakers. and what kind of advantages or disadvantages there might be in using a tower as a rear speaker instead of your standard bookshelf speaker such as the fxi3.

Easy placement and fuller sound out of floorstanding for front and sides. Rear speaker(s) minmal sound so don't have to worry about sound fullness so bookshelf speakers work good and also placement on wall easy.

go with the FXi3's for surrounds... your surrounds need to be off the floor.. about three feet above your ears... this makes a huge difference in the rear surround effects sound. and the FXi3's or FXi5's are wonderful for this job.

Use the R50s in the rear just long enough to replace them with the FXi's.

I love full range speakers for surrounds. The only suggestion I could make would be to get those r50''s about a foot off the floor, or at least a foot above your seated ear level. Bass effects that start from behind you or beside you seem to have a better "feel" of were it is coming from.
