would you consider these a well rounded 2 channel speaker?
another question as well.
if you had a choice between lsi7's or rti8's for a 2 channel rig which would you choose. Currently I can get a set of each for the same price

I would go with the 7's with proper amplification.
I have been having a ball with my brother's 7's. I brought down some of my own cds & have been listening & I have been picking up even greater clarity with them over my own well amped RTA 8T's!
The fifa tweeter is something else. Damn I want some LSI's!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
funny how those little speakers would sound better. Speakers are a funny thing2 CHANNEL

I'll take the 8's in that scenario.

I dig the LSi, I really do. Super flat response, amazingly detailed and accurate. They just lack the emotion in the music for me. I enjoy listening to them, but I don't find myself getting lost in the music.
The RTi8's will be more forgiving with gear, and setup, and provide a better bottom end - all things equal. The RTi's, when driven properly, get my toe to tapping a little bit more even though detail may suffer. They (RTi) just posses a certain energy I listen for, that I haven't found to be as abundant in the LSi lineup.
I sit down to listen to my LSi 9's for 2 hours, I feel like I listened to music for 2 hours. I sit down with my RTi10's, and before I know it several hours have past, and I've still got a stack of selections sitting next to me waiting to be played.
Again, personal preference - and it's a difficult choice, but at the end of the day, with your scenario - I take the 8's over the 7's for equal (+/- $100) money.

I would take the 7's and maybe find a small, tight and fast sub to go with them. I don't care for the brightness of the current RTi line.
Even without a sub, I think you may be happier with the 7's.HT

I've listened to the rti8's and I thought they were better then the rti10's I had for music anyways. I have no way of listening to the LSI line unless I order a pair. So again I have to rely on the ears of the members who have heard these speakers. I ordered 2 sets of lsi's and cancelled them cause I was afraid of putting out that much money and not getting enough of a fifference from what I had. But I've also learned alot more since then.2 CHANNEL

IMHO the LSi series of speakers are capable of making other speakers withn the same price points look foolish. The LSi's give off much the same sonic presentation as the Krell Resolution and LAT series speakers (the LAT's go for about $40k) perhaps it's because both the LSi's and Krell use the Ring Radiator tweeter. Obviously there are a great many things the Krell can do better but the airy sweet treble is seductive and sounds very much the same between both lines.
While I consider the LSi's the best in class speaker I have personally heard I wish I could say the same for the RTi. I personally think the RTi's are some of the brightest sounding speaker's I've ever heard. The mid range is extremely colored and muddy. The LSI's will allow you to grow into them with various upgrades down the road. And with your post count and excitement in audio I doubt very much you'll be keeping anything for very long. So if you want to have some fun and have speakers which can allow you to play around and upgrade other components down the road I really think the LSi's are in your best interest. I would personally opt for the 9's as I've had these driven by NAD, SimAudio and Krell and have enjoyed them immensely.
One of my cheapest systems I ever had was a pair of Polk Audio LSi9's with a NAD 320BEE and C541i CD player with Kimber 8TC speaker wire and Carda's interconnects. That was one of the funniest systems I've ever owned. Things were alot simpler those days. -
