Let me just say first that I already have the HTR-5460 and fairly happy with it. Looking on opinions if this would be much of an upgrade?

I think you'll be happier with the onkyo, I changed after having 2 yamaha's and now have a NAD and I will never own a yamaha again2 CHANNEL

If you are going to make a move, make a move. The Onkyo is a lateral move at best. Decide what you want to do, and make the move count. What you are talking about it essentially brand jumping. Unless the new receiver has a feature or two you just can't live without, save up.
If you want a better receiver with more features, buy one of the bigger Yamahas, Denons, or h/ks. If you want one that sounds better, get an Arcam or an NAD. Either way, it's more money than your current receiver was. Good things start happening around $1k, start saving.System:
