Allied Forces landed on the beaches of Normandy for D-Day!

I may have to fire up Saving Private Ryan in honor of the troops that made it possible for me to be able to fire up Saving Private Ryan!

I just watched modern marvels about D-day on the history channel. Very interesting stuff. I never knew allies used inflatable tanks and jeeps as a diversion to fool the Germans.

has anyone else ever been to the beaches at normandy?

it is truly amazing what these men did... i remember standing on the road that's now across the beaches, looking towards the water a quarter mile away... a quarter mile _behind_ me is where the cliffs began... these guys had to run across half a mile of completely open beach, under machine gun nests for as far as the eye can see... it's truly amazing that any of them survived at all...
