What just happened on my couch was incredible. It will go down in my own personal video gaming history.

Forza 2, 61 inch DLP, loads of bass, perfect surround sound, volume high, and the MS force feedback wheel.

Holy **** was that fun. I'm just sitting there, 100% engrossed with the game, and I realize whats going on around me. The sound filling the room, cars whizzing around everywhere, my arms and hands fatigued from combatting the wheel's forces, just having a blast.

The wheel is just making it a totally different experience. I love it. I can't wait to play this for the rest of the night. I'll be spending my time at 'work' not working, but rather reading what other deadzone settings people are using for their wheels, and purchasing 2-4 more driving games.

Closing time won't come fast enough.

Maybe wheels are better than they used to be... I bought the Wheel that logitech released along with Gran Turismo 3 (only had about 180 degrees of freedom, so not realistic). The force feedback was kind of fun, but I got better lap times with the analog stick.

lanion - about 180 degrees of freedom is a little low, but not much... the 360 wheel that shizelbs and i have has about 135 degrees from vertical in both directions (270 total). that's about in line with a real race car.

granted, when you drive a street car with it, it's a bit unrealistic, but just pretend every street car in the game has a 2:1 steering quickener, and all will be happy times :-)

neomag, what deadzone settings are you using? Would you mind posting them? I can't figure out settings that work well for me.

Haha, no but I agree, a nice TV with good surround and the wheel make Forza 2 quite the experience.

i use no deadzones anywhere... when i touch the pedals, i want it to go _now_ (i also want the finest control possible... the default settings take away 20% of your accelerator movement, which means that every motion you make is 20% more powerful than with no deadzone... allows finer control of the inputs... ditto for steering and braking, braking especially)

i'm considering like 3% inside deadzone on the wheel, i think i'll give that a try tonight, but i'm pretty happy with what i've got... didn't realise the deadzone thing was that big a deal (does it really make a difference?)

Oh man, I tried no deadzone for inside steering, and I could not literally go in a straight line. I was driving like a drunk. I don't see how you could do that.

much practice :). i'm actually reasonably good at the game now, though that is a thoroughly subjective opinion, as i haven't had the chance yet to try my hand at Live, and cyberscore.net doesn't have forza 2 up yet.

So, the settings that are working best for me is no deadzone, except inside turning. I need about 5% deadzone there, otherwise no deadzone works great for me.

My cousin purchased the wheel when it first came out.

Does yours return back to center if you let go of it? His didn't, that was a big turnoff to me. I'd rather use the regular 360 controller if that's the case.

if force feedback is on, it should, but feedback is only on when it's plugged in, it stays off if you're using a battery pack

I had the 360 wheel and I dont ever recall it going back to center. It would go to center when you turned on the xbox, but never after.

It's nice though... a lot more immersive than the controller. I'd be like "whee" on the wheel, then I'd switch to the controller and be like "boring...".

With the controller I was doing medium. With the wheel, easy is still pretty challenging for me. I can tell I will move up to medium before much longer.

yeah, it took me a while to get acclimatised to the wheel, too, though i had the advantage of never experiencing the controller... the hardest part for me was (still is) controlling high-power rear-wheel drive vehicles... the **** seem to just wait for exactly the right moment, then, BAM!, out goes the rear end... i can feel it coming, i just can't lift my right foot fast enough...

i just finished my second endurance race, the R4 one at road atlanta... first place by 7.087 seconds in a nearly-50 minute race (49:47.707)... my arms are a little sore :) (five hours of tuning and tweaking before the race, then the race itself)
