Greetings all ! 
This question is for those who have actually read the LOTR books.
I know the books are very detailed and descriptive, and that the
Elven race are very quick/quiet and light on their feet - But does Tolkien ever state that they walk on TOP of the snow (as Legolas
does in the film) in any of the books ?
I've read that the book and film vary greatly in different aspects,
and was just curious if this is the way Tolkien described the Elves or if it's something Peter Jackson added to his vision.
