any thoughts on the relative merits of these two amps for driving RT16s?

I have the Adcom 535 and used to own the RT16's. While the Adcom is a great, underated amp, I do not think it will be enough for the RT16's. The bass will be muddy underpowered. I do not know wabout the Denon.

Check out some used Outlaw or larger Adcom amps to run with the RT16's.

I like the Adcom 535 I had. It certainly had more balls than it's ratings gave it, and I liked its sound very much... that said, for home theater, the Adcom despite is pro's is being compared against an amp rated at 3 times its power.

If quality is your goal, I'd certainly give the adcom a listen. However, if power is, I don't know enough about the Denon to say it was a sure buy.
